Editorial Review

If you've ever wondered what crashed into the desert near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947, this book will give you some startling answers. While the first version was published in hardcover in 1997, Corso provides new evidence for the presence of alien intruders in this pocket paperback edition. Whether or not you believe his contention, the sheer weight of governmental sources and documentation presented by the former Army intelligence officer is not easily dismissed. Once you understand the historical context (in the midst of the Cold War soon after World War II, with Orson Welles having recently inspired panic in citizens with his fictional War of the Worlds radio broadcast), the military deciding to cover up a real-life alien ship becomes more credible. Corso also gives a convincing explanation of why reports were so multi-various and conflicting. Even if you believe the book is utter fiction, it's still a compelling read. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Highest credible source of verifiable information.
This is an excellent book. Mr. Corso's experience as a nuclear defense commander, white house National security advisor to Pres. Eisenhower for 4 years, then assigned to the Pentagon in the Army R&D division and then as National security advisor to 2 senators makes him a highly reputable and credible source.
5-0 out of 5 stars Loaded with facts.
Mr. Corso dosent waste your time with beating around the bushes to get to the 'good stuff'. This book is loaded with dates, names, and the times, everything happened. I have found this book very hard to put down. Its loaded with facts, and has documents to prove it as well. Great read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best UFO book yet
This gives detailed descriptions of alien bodies, flying crafts, the crash at Roswell and the invention of the transistor. Forget everything you think about military R&D. Forget what you think you know about our world. This book will change your perspective. If you are already a believer, this book will still blow you away. How one man could be so open and so honest, while the rest run and hide, it is beautiful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is more about Modern Physics than Buddhism
Although he does say a few things about Buddhist philosophy, the actual role of the Dalai Lama in these discussions turned out to be acting as the perfect "straight man" for a presentation of some of the bizarreness of modern physics: intelligent but not indoctrinated into the belief that everything "scientific" is necessarily correct.
5-0 out of 5 stars Combining Modern Physics with Buddhism
Edited by Arthur Zajonc, this slim volume is a series of discussions between five leading physicists and a historian have with the Dalai Lama. It's an attempt to bring together: Quantum theory, Doctrines, Religion - World Religions, Religion, Buddhism - General, and Cosmology.

5-0 out of 5 stars For all aspiring "steely-eyed missile men/women"!
This is an excellent text for students and professionals working in aerospace engineering, physics and astronomy. Good luck finding an astrodynamics book more clearly written and illustrated.
5-0 out of 5 stars The basics made simple
Affectionately referred to as BMW (from the author names), this book was the required text for my intro spaceflight mechanics course in college. Not only did I do just about every problem in the book (which helped me blow away the final), but over the next 15 years I kept coming back to it for quick reference. Some of my commercial products contain simple Kepler solvers and orbit integrators that began life in BMW. Compared to other books in this field, it's a deceptively easy read. But I know of at least one rocket destroyed by engineers ignorant of the basics in sections 9.5 and 9.6. Sure, it leaves out chaos and I really wish it used SI rather than imperial units (actually, it favors canonical units, a useful and units-agnostic concept). But BMW is the simplest, most intuitive intro to astrodynamics I've ever seen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fundamental of Astrodynamics
The arguments of the book are very well explained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book with exhaustive detail
This book contians all the information that anyone could ever need.It also has the best index I have ever seen, making finding the smallest section easy. It does not really cover the basics of each system, but provided you have a basic knowledge then it will build on that.It is up to the reader to decide how much depth they want to go into, this book will take them as far as they could possibly need to go.

2-0 out of 5 stars A collection of disjoint writings
This book was obviously intended for the experienced navigator or system designer. It certainly reviews all of the traditional and modern navigation systems. However, in trying to explain every minute detail, the basic workings of the technology are never explained.2-0 out of 5 stars A collection of disjoint writings

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Aviation Management Students
Im planning to go into Aviation Management and this is a great book that goes over everything that happens at an airport and how to run an airport!! Great book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very comphrensive to all areas of airport operations
This book is an excellent text to all airport related personnels. I found it's particularly useful to people working in airport and/or aviation management who want to gain more in-depth understanding to all areas ofairport operations. This book can also serve as in-house classroom trainingtext for airline personnel. A highly recommended one!

4-0 out of 5 stars A valuable book for any transport researcher
This book provides a thorough analysis in all facets of airport operations and provides the reader with a logistical insight that is unmatched.Whilethe book provides a great overview, it lacks information particularly onair cargo development and facility planning at airports. While the growthin air cargo traffic significantly outpaces passenger growth, air cargodevelopment issues at airports become more significant.Air cargodevelopment issues must be addressed by airport authorities. This bookonly makes scant reference to this. However, "AirportOperations" is a valuable book to all airport authorities, consultantsand transport researchers. No doubt, a very timely piece of information. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for Flight Mechanics
A very thoroughly written book.I found some information on all-flying tails that I haven't found any where else. However, Dr. Phillips uses nomenclature that are not what I call traditional nomenclature. Not really a big problem, just different from what I'm use to.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
This text provides unparalled detail in it's discussion of flight mechanics. It contains clear and concise derivations of underlying equations and has well planned figures and example problems.Subject matter includes static and dynamic stability, propulsion, lifting line theory, 6-dof flight simulation with quaternions, along with many other essential topics.I particularly appreciated the straightforward way in which Phillips applies numerical methods to solving many of the problems. The equations required are located in such a manner as to make it easy to find what you need.Though mainly geared toward subsonic flight, I have found the understanding gained through this book invaluable in the design of supersonic vehicles. This is a great book for students learning the subject for the first time and a must have for engineering professionals and aircraft enthusiasts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, Meticulous, Comprehensive
I am an Aerospace engineer working for the Air Force. While attending the annual AIAA aerospace convention in Reno Nevada, I met a professor from Denmark who raved about the work and research of a professor local to the west, Phillips. This seasoned scholar from Denmark wouldn't miss a session if he found Phillips' name appearing in it.I picked up the "Mechanics of Flight" which was on display for the first time at that conference.Due to the mountain of topics covered (900+ pages) I can't say that I have read every line of that book but the material I studied was impressive.I've never seen such complete derivations right from F=MA.The explanations are meticulous and thorough.I coded a real-time 6-DOF flight simulator for a midsized RCAV using this book as the main reference.I've never seen such a straightforward explanation of Quaternion algebra. If there were a "bible" of flight mechanics and dynamics, I would certainly give this my vote over any other in its class. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, rigorous treatment of the topic
This is a good place to start delving into the subject. Contains a little more than the plethora of "lifter" website and in fact distinguishes that the "lifter" technology is but one form of research into "electrogravitics."
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of readings
A great book for anyone into electrogravitics systems or with any real interest in new propulsion technology. This book is made up of several reports and writings pieced together. Some Physics is a must to understand this book. If you are not at all familiar with the some basic principles it will be hard to understand what much the book speaks of. The author takes for granted a certain level of Physics education and familiarity with the subject. 4-0 out of 5 stars Electrogravitics Primer

5-0 out of 5 stars A summary of the Earth Chronicles
Sitchin's series of books is time consuming to read. However, this book is a very nice summary of his theories. He summarizes much of what takes pages and pages to present in the books of the Earth Chronicles series. Not sure as to the validity of Sitchin's assertions, but they sure are interesting. Faithful Christians will probably find this book blasphemous. Free thinkers will enjoy it a great deal!!

5-0 out of 5 stars 90 % good book

5-0 out of 5 stars About the Man
This biography may not be the best choice for the people interested to learn about the technical, engineering details of the space race, but it shines in describing Neil as a man; he is more than mere symbol. It is an amazingly comprehensive account of the world most famous Apollo astronaut. Not satisfied by starting with his birth, he began with his Scottish ancestors, quite an adventure story by itself. It gave many insights on his unflappable personality, how he was chosen for that famous first step, and the tremendous controversy surrounding it. He also went into great detail about his intricate relationship with the other astronauts. This is an excellent resource to buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars ExcellentBook

5-0 out of 5 stars A Shining Proclamation of Hominisation
Of all places, I was first directed to Teilhard de Chardin by a reference thereto in a work of Joseph Ratzinger (later known as Pope Benedict XVI).Given my general interest in the biological sciences as well as anthropology, I decided to investigate this matter.I am ever so thankful that I took that step into The Phenomenon of Man.Teilhard's work is a beautiful synthesis of paleontology, philosophy, and even theology, standing as a beacon to the members of all three branches of knowledge. It is a testimony to the greatness of his work that it still influences the Pope to this very day, who used evolutionary language to discuss the resurrection, a concept no doubt influenced by Teilhard's work.
4-0 out of 5 stars Deeply Influential, Deeply Flawed
Teilhard de Chardin was a Jesuit Father, and a highly regarded palaeontologist. This was an enormously influential book, which is still very much alive in theological circles today.
5-0 out of 5 stars Real Intelligent Design
With so much hype these days about Intelligent Design it's amazing how Chardin was so far head of his time.He seems to have almost anticipated the debate. He shows the science behind the emergence of man or more importantly the NooSphere.

Editorial Review

At a time when overwritten biographies arguably provide too much information about their subjects, astronaut-turned-politician-turned-astronaut John Glenn's breezy memoir is welcome. His life story is simply told, not terribly reflective but enormously compelling: an Ohio boy grows up to become the first American to orbit the earth, takes a shot at the presidency but misses, and triumphantly returns to outer space as a senior citizen and national hero. Following a section on his youth, Glenn describes being a fighter pilot in the Second World War and Korea (where he lived in the same Quonset hut as baseball legend Ted Williams), as well as a test pilot. The highlight of the book is Project Mercury, the early NASA effort that hurled Glenn 150 miles above the planet in a tiny capsule--"flying from one day into the next and back again." In less than five hours, Glenn observed three sunsets and sunrises. He also conducted a few basic experiments, such as "squeezing some applesauce from a toothpaste-like tube into my mouth to see if weightlessness interfered with swallowing. It didn't." Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good read
* There is a great story to be told about John's life and this book does a decent, straightforward job.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wish I Had Stopped 100 Pages From The End
A great story and I am glad that I read it.However,my admiration for Glenn would have been far higher had I stopped a hundred or so pages from the end.Getting reacquainted with Glen as a young man, Marine fighter pilot and then astronaut was to see the very best.In addition to all his accomplishments his relationship with his wife was a great tribute to those left behind.
5-0 out of 5 stars A true pioneer of the space age..
After seeing "The Right Stuff" I became intrigued with the Mercury Seven astronauts and wanted to read everything I could about them and when I saw John Glenn's autobiography I immediately snatched it up and pored through the pages! What a great and exciting life John lived!Poring through the pages I hung on every word and lived his experiences vicariously as he described them...I can only imagine how he felt when he was picked to be one of the 7 Mercury astronauts...He was in a elite group that was beginning to embark on a major adventure into a new frontier...How exciting that must have been!John's book to me was better than the movie..He talks bout his childhood days and test pilot years and ends with a wonderful passage on flying back into space again at the ripe old age of 77..What an inspiring book!If you are looking for inspiration..pick this book up and read about ambition and hard work and focus ande see what all these things can do for your life!John...thanks for being a great role model! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars So-so history.
Forbidden History edited by J. Douglas Kenyon feels very much like a bunch of people tooting their own horns. Not that some of it wasn't interesting - the questions they ask about prehistory, the origins of civilization and the technologies of the past need to be answered.Yet when whole chapters deal with such subjects as Darwin's missing link between apes and men (which is a creation, a myth, of the media and has nothing to do with Darwinism), aliens breeding with mankind and the lost city of Atlantis (or cities as everybody seems to think it is somewhere else) it is hard to take seriously. One chapter says there is proof that there was no ice age but there really were floods when another chapter uses the ice age as part of their arguments. In other words they embrace facts that help them and dismiss facts that don't - just what they say the other mainstream scientists are doing.
4-0 out of 5 stars A lot of great theories!!
There is a LOT of great things in this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Great fiction
There's nothing really scientific on this book. It's only a great fiction work really. Almost comic most of the time. Have that in mind when you read it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars No math
This book does an outstanding job of explaining the basics of flight: how and why planes fly, what matters in wing design, how propellers work, how jet engines work. It does this with no math, and some good clear use of Newton's 3 laws.
4-0 out of 5 stars Changing the paradigm
For a pilot that was tought aerodynamics based in Bernoulli theories, this is a total change of the old paradigm. It explain the concepts in very simple words. Every one can understand the Coanda Effect and its importance in aerodynamics.
3-0 out of 5 stars One take on the subject
As a life long pilot and college professor of aviation, I have long been aggrevated by the one sided nature of aerodynamic discussions. I was glad to see this book hit the shelves. While not perfect, it does go into great detail about "Newtonian" lift. However, the authors' dismissal of Bernoulli is somewhat inappropriate and premature. It is hard to argue with wind tunnel data that clearly shows pressure differences surround bodies (not just wings). Perhaps some discussion about why many individuals are confused about Bernoulli would be more useful than simple dismissal. If readers keep all of this in mind while absorbing the authors' examples/foundations about Newton, one's overall understanding about lift will improve. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars From Myth and Wonder to Confirmed Fact
Simon Singh's retelling of how the Big Bang theory came about and was confirmed, is an epic tale of how good science is supposed to be done and is supposed to work. It gives a detailed, yet a panoramic view of how we emerged from an era of myth, superstition, and intellectual darkness to the frontiers of the science of Cosmology, Astronomy, Astro and Nuclear physics.
4-0 out of 5 stars Accomplishes Its Goals
As I thumbed through this book in the bookstore prior to purchasing it, I got the impression it would be about how science discovered the Big Bang and how the Big Bang came to be canonized in cosmology. That is exactly what Simon Singh did with this book. Some of us have science backgrounds, and so much of the first half of the book is seen as unnecessary or at least too long. Those with no science background may have enjoyed the stories of Copernicus, Kepler, etc. more than Hoyle's hurt feelings later in the saga.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Big Bang
Science shouldn't be dull, it should be stimulating. Singh is even better than the late Isaac Asimov at making it stimulating.
