5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing photography -- no narrative -- great coffee table book
As other reviewers have said, the photography is top notch.I will focus my review on the difference between this book and his "classic", A Child Is Born. When I was deciding on my purchase I did not know which book would be better for my purposes, so I hope to shed some light on that for others.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful images of the human lifespan
Lennart Nilsson took the first image of a living human embryo in the 1960s and stunned the world. Now, Life is an absolutely amazing book of images documenting human life from DNA through fetal development and birth. The second half of the book focuses on the human body, it's organs, tissues the things that eventually threaten life - bacteria and viruses.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant photography...
The photography in this book is proof positive of the miraculousness of life and the beginning of a human soul.I heartily recommend this book for a deeper look at the creation of a baby and its subsequent growth. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Doctor's Jokes Don't Work
Yes, I understand that Doctors believe the human body is SO complex that they feel they have to add little elves, sex jokes, and personal, inside humor to make the book readable; However, you can do basic education and keep people reading by not mystifying.I personally took offense at some of the body labels and the condescending way this book approaches the body. I've read several books similar to this, all in an effort to keep my 65 year old body young, and to protect my children from disease.I found Rayna Gangi's Book, and Andrew Weil's books to be much more respectful, and hence, more informative and readable. These guys are capitalizing on the YOU premise, and obviously laughing and joking all the way to the bank.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could personally thank the authors
I also bought the RealAge makeover book.I highly recommend that if you enjoyed this book.It has even more details, IMO.I am following the workout plan in that book and have been for the last 48 days.I feel fantastic.I also got my multivitamins based on their recommendations.
4-0 out of 5 stars Yes - Basic - But Thats What The General Population Still Needs
As a Fitness Pro and Lifestyle Consultant - it is clear the general population still lacks knowledge of the basics. While a good number of reviews state this book is not a good one because it only covers the basics - I disagree.

1-0 out of 5 stars if you have to throw away $150...
If you actually buy this book you're paying for the illustrations. Don't waste your time actually reading it, the presentation of the material is ponderous and completely unimaginative. The chapter on immunology is one of the worst I've seen anywhere.
3-0 out of 5 stars X and Y chromosomes
A more serious omission is the absense of the x chromosome from the glossarythough that y is there, unconsciously reinforcingthat men are incomplete females?Males come equipped with beefed up sixpacks whereas the woman look like demurelittle housewives. Artists havetried to depict other races but thegender representation is pathetic. Aheterosexist pro-male interpretation of human sexuality is foundthroughout the book, which can be annoying. Some of the comments obviously written with students in mindare patronizing. The layout is repetitious andand at times quite unstimulating. The best detail was why a chicken breast is white considering its a muscle.

3-0 out of 5 stars laughable omission
How can this really be an Anatomy and Physiology textbook written by a Phd?There is not one picture or drawing of a male foreskin (prepuce). One does not have to wonder why the medical community is so ill prepared to deal with a normal male body. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incomparable
You've got to have a Netter's Atlas on hand. You never know when you'll need it.Even if you are well out of medical school, well cocooned in your tight little sub-specialty, you still need Netter. You never know when your elderly neighbor is going to knock on your door and ask you precisely which muscle in her back hurts when she stands up, just to pick a random example.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can you imagine that the pictures drawn by Netter are far much clearer than what we saw during dissections?
I remembered that when we did dissections in the anatomy class throughout the anatomy classes of the 1st 2 years, one student per table (who do not want to touch the corpse) would be responsible to bring and hold the Netter for the entire lesson. Netter really helped us a lot! I have browsed many other anatomy atlas and have not yet found one that is better than Netter. Although some atlases contain real pictures, they are not as clear as that in Netter! I can say, "Netter + Moore" is the golden combination for anatomy!
5-0 out of 5 stars Visual Learner
If "a picture could say a thousand words", this book is it.I am an LPN turned Medical Coder. The book has made Anatomy `come alive'.I struggled through 2 anatomy/physiology classes in the above 2 programs & still did not feel like I understood. If you are a visual learner, this book is a must.It does have to be supplemented with written text as others have said, I use a google search when my textbooks are not enough. To determine if this book would be helpful, think of it like this, if you put together a big entertainment center, which would you find more helpful: diagrams of where each screw, nut & bolt gets attached to what piece, OR by reading a description of each piece & the description of the piece it gets attached to.For me its diagrams, so the book for me was well worth the cost ($69 + tax at Barnes & Noble, 3rd edition, soft cover). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and Well Organized Book.
I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Tolerable
This book has some useful diagrams and illustrations. It's easy to read, but seems a bit too simplified at times. Also, I think the editors were a bit lax on the writing, personally. The CD quizes are helpful for review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and highly understandable textbook
This book filled with great informative pictures and information that makes any college A and P student's life a lot easier.I used this book for anatomy and physiology class I and II.The book is easy to read and it is a powersource of knowledge. The book is not tedious nor boring to read.In fact, it is quite interesting and was a pleasure studying from.If you want to know the type of questions asked on college anatomy and physiology exams, get the following which is also on amazon:Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars helpful, but needed more examples
I used book for my Yoga Teacher training course. Learning the larger muscles is easy, but the smaller more detailed, deeper muscles is diffucult. This book really illustrated these wonderfully!
5-0 out of 5 stars great book
The pictures are really good, and the writing is quite clear. I am a graduate student in Movement Science, so am interested in the scientific aspects of movement. This book is an excellent bridge between the dancer/movement specialist and the biomechanics student.

The Anatomy of Movement is a well-written and organized book that is targeted to athletes, dancers and others who need to understand physical structures and their functional relationships to movement.

5-0 out of 5 stars They got it right with this one...
This book is a fabulous learning tool. The authors really seem to understand what parts need detailed explanation and the information is presented in a way that a student can grasp it easily.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great overall perspective
Although our professor barely used the book for class, this book was very well laid out, starts off at a good pace and is easy to understand. I especially enjoyed the case studies in real life anatomy problems and real world applications of what we learned. The only part I didn't like is the author's prolouge, which seemed a little inflated and overzealous? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
this book is awsome it has everything cover for every body system.., its very well explained, has great pictures, great diagrams, great color for diferent parts of the book, divisions, quizes, questions ... its a super book mainly for understanding simple concepts that in other books are very bad explained or with a lot of text.. This book explains the important stuff not with a lot of details as other books you will understand quickly.... Excellent for medschool, i use it for a first reading on the subject and then after understandig the subject and having an idea of it.I read other physiology book and add stuff that didn't mentioned to my notes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Anatomy and Physiology Textbook
I used the third edition of this textbook when I was enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology I and II in college twenty three years ago. It is still used by the college I attended. The present edition (11th edition) which I purchased is the number one Anatomy and Physiology textbook. It explains every anatomical term and concept very well. The artwork is fabulous in showing the Anatomy and different Physiological processes. It is the best Anatomy and Physiology textbook for a two semester Anatomy and Physiology course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Atlas for Gross Anatomy
Although Netter's classic drawings are helpful in understanding the layout of human body systems, I find that this 6th Edition of Rohen is outstanding due to the excellent photography of professionally-dissected cadavers. It is much easier to identify complex structures on real cadavers in a Gross Anatomy lab using this reference; moreover, it is helpful as a tool to study when the cadaver lab is not open.Real bodies are much more difficult to analyze than idealized drawings--with this book, you can review before a laboratory excercise and have a more realistic expectation of what you are going to actually see.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Wow!, to this amazing book. I am so pleased with this purchase, I can't tell ya... I'll try. I am in massage school right now, blessed with great anatomy and physiology instructors, and great books (Musculino, Netters, Werner). Memorizing is not my strong suit so I look for as much as I can to help my brain log this info. This book gave me the missing link. I'm really beginning to tie this all together. It's angle on understanding anatomy is fun and more day to day, the illustrations are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. Thank you, thank you for creating this fine piece of work. 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Resource Book
I am an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner working in an academic environment with Trauma surgeons and Surgical Critical Care surgeons. I am often asked to function as a First Assist in the OR. This text has greatly enhanced my understanding of anatomical structures, their location, their origins and terminations. The graphics are classic "Netter". I review the areas of our procedures and the faculty are impressed with my knowledge of anatomic locations. I would highly recommend this text for instructors as well. The CD with many PowerPoint compatible drawings are also a great resource as I teach nursing and pre-hospital (Paramedic) providers. Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars As much as I need to know and a little bit more
As a student of neuropsychology, I am aware of an overlap between what I must know and what an M.D. studies at a far greater depth. This book, as previous reviewers have noted, is a good introduction for a medical student, and for a psychologist, it is a gold mine. I wish I had read it before taking the gross anatomy class. The illustrations are first rate in my opinion, and the structures, their functions, and differential diagnosis information is very helpful for my professional needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Neuroclinical Diagnosis
Terrific book, great neurology diagnosis book for anyone.Great pictures, easy to read and understand.Great case studies as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal neuroanatomy text for med students/residents
I'm a seasoned clinical neurologist and bought this book to refresh my knowledge of neuroanatomy. To all the med students and residents out there reading this, I can assure you that virtually all of the information in the book is used by practicing neurologists on a daily basis. This is stuff you really need to know; by the time you're in my situation most of it is second nature. The author does a great job of presenting, just as the title promises, clinically oriented neuroanatomy. It goes beyond that, though, because there's also a fair number of elementary discussions of common neurological diseases, including differential diagnosis and treatment considerations.A nice learning feature are the frequent mnemonics scattered through the text, e.g. for the functions of the hypothalmus, HEAL=homeostatic, endocrine, autonomic, limbic. The illustrations are gorgeous, and the case presentations with accompanying MRI/CT are excellent.Strongly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent strength training reference manual
I work out regularly, and when doing strength training, I frequently have questions about which muscles I am working, whether I am performing the moves with correct form, etc.I decided to read this book after reading the author's companion work, Women's Strength Training Anatomy, which focuses on lower body only, whereas this volume offers a full-body review.

Excellent strength training manual. I actually own the original version, but just had to buy the revised one as well. Do not regret the decision. This a clear, concise, well-laid out guide to weight training. I've been lifting for 9 years so I'm pretty advanced. Since I need to change my routines every 4-6 weeks, I always look to this handy book to put together new ones.

I purchased this book to assist in preparation for a small group presentation in a Yoga class at DePaul University. The course text (Donna Farhi's excellent "Yoga Mind, Body & Spirit") emphasized the need to understand bodies "to the cellular level" in order to fully appreciate what Yoga does for the body, and provided an introduction to each bodily system in relation to Yoga."Anatomy of Hatha Yoga" took that introduction to a level I never dreamed possible, and provided most, if not all of the information needed for our small group presentation on the skeletal system, especially in the context of Yoga. It's also extremely well written -- and yes, exhaustive and comprehensive -- but what comes through is the author's love of anatomy and Yoga. Some sections took more than one reading, but the challenge was as good for the brain as Yoga is for the body.I will recommend that this book be added to the course material, either as a required text or a reserve resource for students.Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars better have some knowledge or some time
My title says it all. The book is good, but it is not suitable for a novice. I was looking for books to recommend to new individuals to yoga, so I bought this book. It is good to me, but I have been teaching for 7 years. If you are new lookign for base knowledge, look elsewhere. If you have been practicing yoga for awhile, give it a try! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars missing alot of detail....
Wow, I am really suprised this book garnered as much positive feedback as it has. I am a nursing major, and I was apalled at the lack of detail in this book. I ended up using the A&P text from my 201 class for the majority of this class. Maybe it was the questions my instructor asked, but I constanatly had to go to other sources in order to find the information I needed. If anyone finds themself in this situation, Ken Saladin's text by the same name is the best!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best A&P book for nursing majors
This is a required reading text for anatomy and physiology I and II at the college I attend, and I have nothing but praise for the author and illustrators of this book.It is as comprehensive as A&P can get, and as difficult as the material is to learn, it is broken down into systems so that it is not too overwhelming.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I bought the book the first time because I had to.I bought it the second time because I wanted to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!
At last a text with up to date radiological anatomy of the head and neck. We all know that this is potentially the most challenging area to interpret and none of the standard texts to date are equal to demonstrating the level of exquisite detail obtained by modern imaging techniques. The radiological images and the illustrative drawings are excellent and the organization correlates well with the problems likely to be found in radiological practice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of cancer biology
This book provides a comprehensive overview of cancer biology. Excellent as introductory text for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate student. Written by a lasker award winner and one of the pioneers of the molecular biological study of cancer. The accompanying CD has intersting supplimentary material especially the videos that add to the utility of the book. The accompanying poster lists the most common interconnected pathways in cancer. Highly readable and uptodate. Highly recommended for purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars The State of the Art as it is Known Today.
This textbook, aimed at the advanced undergraduate and graduate biology and medical students covers the basic biology of cancer at the molecular andcellular level. Research into cancer in many different directions has been continuing at an accelerated pace since about World War II. In 1975 a major breakthrough was made by H.E. Varmus and J.M. Bishop on San Francisco. The result has been the creation of the new branch of biology covered by this book.
