I would give the damn thing 10 stars
If you are a Chem-E and don't own this book then you might as well kill yourself, or switch to mechanical.

The CD doesn't replace the hardcopy
The platinum edition is perfect - CD and hardcopy.While the CD doesn't replace the hardcopy it is very handy for it's portability and the accuracy of the 'active charts'.

Good basic but needs an update urgently
First some positive news : this book certainly gives an overview of the problems a process plant engineer will have to face. Many practical examples are given, and after some general introduction there are separate chapters per typical equipment (e.g. pumps, heat exchangers, etc.). It is also positive the non-american majority of the world is not forgotten : there are metric dimensions on the figures.
The missing Link
This book bridges the gap between College and the work environment. After reading the first two chapters I felt as if I am ready to go out and manage the construction of a Refinery. That is the kind of confidence this book instills in you. Can you imagine how I would feel upon completing this book? I can't wait.

The book is a mix of economical and technical aspects of chemical engineering design; so is good for graduates starting the career or for practicing engineer interested in economical aspects of plant design. For me the good companion book for these engineer is "Conceptual design of chemical processes" by J. Douglas or better but out-of-print "Applied Project Engineering and Management" by E. Ludwig. ... A classic text in a new edition.
Having worn out my original copy, purchased almost 40 year ago,
This book is no joke
If you want to know transport well, this is the best book out for anyone.These guys weren't playing games when the they wrote this book.This book is serious, but don't use it as your introductory transport book beacues it is too advanced to start with, due to the fact that it is a graduate text.Once you have a grasp for the subject then you definitely need to check it out.Look in any other book and they will have it as a reference.I dont't know why these guys don't write more books.

A great book - information overload
This is a very useful reference to have if you work extensively on HPLC.I find its of more use to understand concepts ...there is a lot of information here. Plactical and Rational method Development!
Rational Method development for HPLC is resented. Instruction of rational development of 3-solvent separation system is excellent. This book also has useful know-hows and tools in practical laboratory experiments, such as strength of hydrogen bonding of base silica and nomograph for estimation of"solvent strength" for reversed phase HPLC.

Maybe one of the best books about Operations Management
A breakthrough new way of thinking!
Best for Job-Shop Manufacturers
This book was great! I couldn't put it down. The author is able to pull together the best of Lean, Kanban, JIT etc... and apply them in a methodology that truly works for a diverse manufacturing plant. We make hundreds if not thousands of different products, some only once and some are repeats but always in small batches. It was really great to read a manufacturing book that will help a plant like ours. Some really great stuff in this book!
Focuses on today's manufacturing climate
As a former manager of strategic planning, now returned to the manufacturing side, I consider this book to be one of the most important I have read over the past several years.What I am seeing in manufacturing is that the cookie cutter products, high tech or not, are moving to either Asia or Mexico.The remaining products are being sold to customers who require a high level of customization on a very short lead time.The author has developed a system to accomplish this.He focuses not just on the nuts and bolts of the shop floor, but also on streamlining the support systems needed to achieve this level of service.If you are in high level manufacturing or corporate management, you need to read this book.If you are at a lower level, you will still be exposed to many ideas which you can incorporate into improving your service, to both internal and external customers, and reducing your lead times.I think it ranks right up there with The Goal as one of the most important business books written in the era of modern manufacturing. ... Process troubleshooting book.
Boringless, easy to understand and real practical book. Reading this book I have troubleshoot many process problems effectively.
Unique style
The unique style of the author explaining basic concepts with everyday problem expamples is what makes this book very absorbing and useful.

Great for students/interns and young process engineers!
I'm a summer intern in an oil refinery and few of my tasks were to rerate exchangers, fin fan coolers, etc., and I didn't have any experience whatsoever! They don't teach at school how this equipment works in a process context and if you don't have a clue on what you're doing, this is the best book to refer to.It is very elementary, but at the same time, it can be very specific.It goes through fundamental steps for troubleshooting general processes as well as clear explanations of how most of the equipment in the industry work.Highly recommended at any level! ... Absolutely worth buying
This book is good not only as a text book because of the simple way it presents the subject, the problems, and the complementary examples on the CD. It is also a great reference, because it has every chapter sumarized by the end, with the formulas. It includes multiple examples both on the book and the Cd, and allows full use of computational tools applied on the problem solving.

Best book by far that I have had as undergrad.Highly recommended.We all love it at the University of Utah.

Great Book
This has been the best chemical engineering book in my undergraduate education, BY FAR. Not only does the book rpesent concepts that are easy to understand, but they are also reinforced continually with plenty of example problems from the accompanying CD. The CD also has a few modules and "games" to help out. All in all, from the standpoint of an undergraduate dealing with this course material, the book is excellent in helping students with different learning styles learn the material. A must for people in any phase of distillation field
This is the more complete book on practical aspects of distillation and absorption. From design (together with the companion book Distillation Design) to startup and troubleshoot. Can't take Ochem lab w/o it!
This is a phenomenal book in which Mr. Zubrick brings down the complexities involved in Organic Chemistry Lab into terms that undergraduates can understand. Also, in something I've never seen done before, he adds humor to his writing. I actually enjoy reading this book, and get more out of it then any other lab text I've ever read. If you take Organic Chemistry Lab without it, you're doing yourself a pretty big diservice.

Worthwile
Zubrick's manual gives a comprehensive overview of fundamental lab methods.I've found it to be very useful on many ocassions. However, some of the explanations could be improved with discussion of the theory, especially the sections on chromatography.Even so, it's cheaper than other books and explains many techniques very well.

What have I done to you chemistry??
I bought the book because they said it was good for writing Lab Reports. But no, I can't, The book is so incomplete, he wastes space trying to make it funny and humorous.
