5-0 out of 5 stars Super Choice for Step 3
I initially heard of this book from the 2nd & 3rd year residents in our program. A lot of them used it for their Step 3 and were successful and loved it. I was skeptical at first because this exam was important to me for a number of reasons. In any case, my experience was much the same as theirs, and I did extremely well, as with my predecessors, but I wanted to provide greater detail that I know will help you. I was pleasantly surprised, but at the same time totally relieved, when I sat for the exam because everything I'd studied here was right there on the exam. Specifically, I found the book was incredibly helpful in all of the following areas, which are the key areas required on the exam:
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Success Story
Solid review for Step 3. My friend used it for his Step 2 too and loved it, but my only experience was for 3. I like the way the book's organized by medicine subspecialties (Cards, GI, Renal, Tox, etc) and the outline is a huge time-saver while leaving nothing to the imagination.GREAT book and a zealous recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars High Scores for this Ultimate Review!
Relatively inexpensive as for as board reviews go, but POWERPACKED with all the key info, concisely presented, and beautifully organized. I passed my USMLE Step 3 with flying colors. Definitely have to recommend this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Stunningly Important Piece of Work
I have been watching the development of William Tiller's work for almost two decades. He is professor emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, who has published over 300 scientific papers. Being an academic is no guarantee that everything that he says is correct. Scientists are just like regular folks, with all the same foibles as the rest of humanity. They are more likely to be atheists and to believe in the power of reason over emotion, but that's about it. We have seen countless scientists who have done something brilliant in their youth and then get caught up in eccentric interests later in life: Newton is by no means the only one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Combining Science and Mysticism!
A fresh look at the evidence for psychokinesis and quantum environmental changes in both scientific and laymen's terms. The science gets a little deep for most people, but it is necessary to back up the remarkable theories presented.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sacred Spaces, Sacred Science, Sacred Legacy
Just as many indigenous cultures knew for thousands of years, this book presents thoroughly documented scientific evidence of the amazing things that happen when a group of like-minded souls with experience in expanded states of consciousness focus their intention and will on a common goal. Unfortunately today, many of those cultures are essentially extinct, but many thanks are due to this man and his colleagues - for breaking through the established scientific paradigm, and for offering the hope and tools needed to rescue ourselves, and this planet. From a health and environmental perspective, Dr. Tiller's courageous exploration of the effects of spirit and consciousness on physical reality is an elixir to a world in dire need of new theoretical ideas, and firmly demonstrated alternatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential addition to your personal library!
If you can purchase only one book about communicating health information to consumers, make it Helen Osborne's "Health Literacy from A to Z!" As a consumer health librarian working with people with disabilities, their caregivers and service providers, I have been a health literacy advocate for several years. Helen's articles and books were among the first I discovered. She continues to be a pioneer in the field, inspiring people to seek creative and effective ways to make health information accessible for everyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars Empower Your Patients With Help From This Book
We often think our patients understand us fully when we provide them with information regarding their diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan. In fact studies show that over half of the adult population has trouble processing and acting on this information correctly. Poor compliance often leads to poor outcomes. We need to ensure that our patients get "the whole picture".

5-0 out of 5 stars Scientific Writing - A difficult task made easier
"Successful Scientific Writing" is a well written, user friendly and sometimes humorous guide to effective scientific writing. Even the wire, lay open binding is user friendly. The text is up to date, well organized and provides guidance on effective use of computers and software in the entire scientific endeavor.Of course the primary strength is in helping the reader through the writing and publication of the scientist's efforts. This concise work would be especially appropriate as a text in scientific writing classes. The exercises provided would be great student assignments. Additionally the exercises are fun and enhance points made in the text.Matthews, et al have given us a guide that is appropriate for advanced writers as well.Virtually every page has gems of wisdom or insights that will enhance the end result of scientific communication. This book may be especially helpful for those that are "stuck" in trying to get started writing or have complete "writers block".After reading and using this book, readers will likely be thankful that the authors have so adeptly conveyed their wisdom and vast experience in helping others to write with greater clarity and brevity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better
Our lab used this book for a study group on effective scientific writing. We are located in Korea, so with the exception of the instructor and I, all participants were not native speakers of English. As a result, this review is from the viewpoint of foreign students. It is based on chapter reviews written by the members of our lab after finishing the book.5-0 out of 5 stars Watch what you eat!
Words can hardly express the beauty and cleverness of "Successful Scientific Writing" by Matthews, Bowen and Matthews as a step-by-step guide on how to write scientific reports for publication in English. I am using this book for a course that I teach on scientific writing at thePostgraduate School of Health Sciences atAarhus University in Denmark, and I find it to be perfect! Before this book was published, there was nonethat dealt so well and so entertainingly with so many aspects of what itactually takes to prepare a manuscript for publication in a scientificjournal. Many young (and old) scientists are good thinkers, but they areoften poor writers! Thus, although they may have been able to design andcarry out an experiment, they often lack the ability to express what theyhave done clearly and concisely. This book is for them! The first fewchapters provide mainly words of encouragement for getting the writingprocess underway. There are also remarkable bits of advice, such as thenotion of avoiding certan snacks that could derail ones momentum. In myview, the crux of the book appears in chapters 5, 6 and 7 in whichextraordinarily lucid and practical instructions and exercises arepresented for improving one's ability to write scientifically. There arealso tips on how to optimize word-processing so that the manuscriptsubmitted to the editor of a journal is most likely to be accepted forpublication. Perhaps some old-timers in Science can do without this book, but they should nevertheless have a copy of it on hand for their students. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Engineering Physics I & II level coverage
This book is fantastic for either supplementary study or serving as stand-alone text. All of the Phys I chapter content found in most other texts will be presented in depth and in concert; typical layout is anywhere from 6-10 pgs of theory and subject explanation, followed by 5-15 pgs of fully solved, worked out problems. The step-by-step nature of the problems is amazing and helped me get an A in both Phys I & II moreso than attending lecture - which was a rarity some weeks. The progression is: Vectors, Mechanics & Motion in several dimensions (mostly 2), Angular & Rotational Dynamics (Center of Inertia), brief Thermodynamics overview (too simple of systems, but at least there's something), Sound & Vibration, Electrical Forces, RC RL RLC circuits, magnetism, induction principles, fields and charges, poles and magnetic materials, optics (reflection, refraction, diffraction, lenses, interference patterns, optical instruments, and finally a cursory examination of relativity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for success in college freshman physics
Many freshman college physics textbooks are just awful. They often go on and on about what is obvious and gloss over the finer points...and of course there are no examples. This is where this book comes in. As in all Schaum's outlines, for each topic there are a few pages of theory including equations, then some problems with the solutions worked out extensively, and then finally some problems with the answers but no extensive solution. The format of the outline is the same that you should expect in any two semester college freshman physics sequence. The first part of the book is an explanation of vectors, newtonian mechanics, fluids, and thermodynamics. The second part of the book follows the usual second semester of freshman physics - electricity, magnetism, and optics. The final six chapters of the outline are an introduction to modern physics, which engineers and physics students would normally take after they finish the two semester freshman physics sequence. A note of caution - do not buy the attractively named "Schaums Outline of Physics for Engineering and Science". It is chocked full of errors! Instead, stay with this old reliable title. It is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars A necessity
To succeed in a fast-paced introductory phyics class, one must work as many problems as one can. If you're in such a class, then for your grade's sake, I recommend that you buy a copy of this book for it contains a clear review of the theory, followed immediately by MANY, MANY example problems with detailed solutions. As always though, try to work the problems before peeking in the answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
This was a last minute purchase for school and the book was shipped quickly and arrived on time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely necessary for O Chem!
if you're taking o chem, then you need this book.the summaries are helpful for review of chapters or in the worst case scenario, in substitution of the chapters.but the most important part of this book are the solutions to the problems.the only way you'll learn organic chemistry, like it or not, is by practicing problems.this solutions manual is the only way to know if you're doing those problems correctly - the text book does NOT contain solutions for problems in the book, beside the worthlessly easy ones contained directly in the chapters.in addition to the solution, it contains an explanation for all problems that require one.
4-0 out of 5 stars study guide
i think it's quite helpful and gives you some " experience" and more confidence before dealing directly with the exams themselves.!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars psychology of conservatism & fundamentalism
Altemeyer is regarded by social psychologists as the world's leading authority on the psychology of political conservatism and the psychology of religious fundamentalism. He has also done the most-extensive studies inthe psychology of bigotry. Altemeyer has submitted his fascinatingpersonality-questionnaire to over 50,000 individuals, including young andold, various academic specializations, Republicans, Democrats, Christians,Jews, Moslems, religious reformists, religious fundamentalists, atheists, agnostics, professional politicians, U.S., Canada, the former SovietUnion--many categories of people. He has applied the sophisticatedmathematical technique of factorial analysis to the results, so as toidentify how a wide range of personality variables naturally clustertogether or separate--are actually the same or different from one another. He has found that political conservatism, religious fundamentalism, and allkinds of bigotry--against Jews, gays, Blacks, women, the poor, and manyother minority or other weak groups--cluster together as actually a singlepersonality-trait, which he has thus called "Right-WingAuthoritarianism." He was amazed to find, when he submitted hisquestionnaires to members of the communist party in the former SovietUnion, that they too scored very high on his "RWA" scale--thatthe U.S.S.R.'s communists were true conservatives. However, communists incapitalist countries, interestingly, scored low on "RWA" orconservatism.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great system for learning terminology quickly
I am a midwifery student and I needed to learn medical terminology. This book is set up like a workbook. You can fill it in as you go. By filling in the blanks, making up flash cards, and taking the quizzes, I was able to learn a lot of medical terminology in a short amount of time. Much of the terminology in medicine is very logical, using root words, suffixes and prefixes. If you learn these, you can figure out the meaning of a lot of medical terms. Filling in blanks (especially when a lot of the answers are obvious) may seem redundant and like busy work, but by using more modalities for your learning process (auditory as you listen to the cd's, visual as you read, tactile as you write), you learn it so much more quickly and easily. There were some typos in the book and a few frames that were written incorrectly or in a confusing manner but not many. If you pay attention, you will catch them. I would advise the editors to do a better proofreading job in the next edition. This book is totally worth it if you are just starting out in the medical field. It is basic terminology but it will give you a great start. The book also covers some pathological, diagnostic, and therapeutic terms, as well as a section where you can practice reading sample medical records. Make sure you buy a book that is not filled in so you can fill it in yourself and get the most out of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars learning to use STELLA on different problems
The book teaches the use of a modelling program called STELLA, that can be used to simulate the behaviour of dynamical systems. You can treat the text as an extended user's manual about the capabilities of STELLA. It appears to be an easy program to learn. Its user interface hides the gory details of coupled integro-differential equations that actually model the systems.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Modeling, Second Edition
This is an excellent book for beginning and intermediate modelers. I found it to be engaging, practical, and easy to understand. Dynamic modeling has become an essential tool to facilitate understanding developments in our increasingly complex and interdependent world, to communicate ideas across disciplinary boundaries, and to help solve problems. This book is a great place to begin. It offers a hands-on introduction to dynamic modeling. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great blend of concept and practice
I have been involved in static data modeling as part of database design throughout my career, and because of that know very well that to really learn how to model, you have to do more than listen to lectures or read a text. This book, along with the accompanying STELLA modeling tool, is an excellent blend of concept and practice.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for anyone considering to become a doctor
This book was great, but most of it was common sense knowlege. I had wished it had gone into more detail about medical shool etc...The ending of the book sort of just dropped off, I kind of expected more. But it was a real eye opener, and it showsthat as long as you put your mind to something you can be anything you want to. A great self motivator!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good only if your just starting your research
I found this book pretty superficial. It includes a lot of common sense ancedotes that, if you've done much research at all, will sound very repetitive.5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book
I have read this book a number of times over the past several years.I very much enjoyed reading it and felt it was instrumental in my journey towards medical school.I suggest it to any pre-med. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I guess OK
The book I would say is good if you are willing go insanely above and beyond the normal realms of getting a job...most of the info. is pretty easy to figure out on your own, but if structure is needed this can be a good guideline.Over all it did not do much for me, but it might work wonders for others.

2-0 out of 5 stars Deficient in important information
On the positive side, the book is neat and is written with humor. Unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. When reading this book, I found that most of the information covers resume writing and how to make contact with pharmaceutical sales reps. I think some of her advice about making contact could prevent you from ever getting a job in pharmaceutical sales because it is so unprofessional. The "how to actually get the job part," the interview, was seriously deficient in information. There were few questions and few answers, and next to nothing about how to prepare for the interview. This one simply does not deliver on the description of the book given.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only 23 days and a JOB!

5-0 out of 5 stars A true book for Practitioners and Academicians
This book provides insight into various aspects of design of experiments. Design of experiment is a powerful tool, which is used for process planning, designing and analyzing the experiment, and to obtain effective and efficient conclusion. Author has exploited his industrial and academic experience to provide detailed analysis of design of experiment with examples and hence this book is at centre stage for Decision Makers (DM). On studying this book, DM (engineers and managers) can easily apply design of experiment to real world problems and explore the influence of each and every parameter on the process performance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for both industrial and academic use
"Design of Experiments for Engineers and Scientists" is a well written and easily understandable text on the subject of practical experimental design considerations.Whether you are a practicing engineer in business or an instructor at an academic institution, I think that you will find this to be an excellent introductory textbook. It is simple enough for an engineer that does not have an extensive statistical or mathematical background to read through once, grasp the concepts and be able to apply experimental design techniques to improve his company's performance. The graphical presentations are very helpful in this regard. It is also detailed enough to use in a graduate course to introduce engineers to the subject of practical experimental design techniques.Having held a variety of industrial engineering positions from process engineer to member of the Board of Directors before returning to academia, I feel that I am well qualified to judge the value of this book.I have taught a graduate class in experimental design techniques for several years at a major university and will include this as a text for my future classes.Being a consultant in the areas of Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma, I feel this text will also be very useful for my industrial clients as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Jiju Antony Design of Experiments for Engineers & Scientists
"This is a Must-Have Concise Textbook for individuals wishing to understand the essence and essentials of the Design of Experiments (DOE) subject matter in a minimum of time. For its relatively smaller size and greater depth of coverage, the textbook is excellent, providing a clear, concise and very effective treatment of the useful and revealing body of knowledge composing DOE. For emphasis, the text explains fundamental DOE concepts effectively, while the breadth of topics coverage is very rich. High school and college students, scientists and engineers, professionals and researchers all alike, can deploy the techniques presented in this DOE text to deepen their understanding of processes with particular respect to experimental process variables effects, their magnitudes and interactions; furthermore the textbook provides direction for the optimization of the processes being studied."
