It's actually worth the huge price tag
I was turned on to Stewart through his excellent multivariable calculus text. Having been so impressed by that book I decided to fork out the bucks for the this text. Yea - I know - the material in this text is a pre-requisite to the other but I own a kazillion mathematics books and at this point in my life, I've been through various levels of Calc so many times that order is irrelevent. Anyway, for me, this book is really worth the huge price tag. I frequently open it up and read it for pleasure. Sick, huh? But it's that good! Stewart is great at chosing examples to work out fully for your eddification. He also is great at selecting interesting and illustrative problems that aren't presumptuous of the student's abilities at clairvoyance (unlike some other textbook authors I could mention). Lastly, the everything about this book reeks of quality: from the mathematical content (btw - it has excellent graphics!) and Stewart's obvious underlying teaching abilities to the physical characteristics of the binding and page materials. The book is a jewell.
Good Calculus Book
I've learned calculus long time ago, but recently I need it to read a financial book.This book worked for me.I am surprised to know that calculus is easy due to the book's step by step explanation.This book is good not only for readers who learn calculus for the first time but also for poeple who have some experiences.Depneding on your level and purpose, you can read this book like a novel or do all exercises.Only problem I can think of is that this book may not be suitable for people who need to learn pure mathmatics because definitions are not so strict.

Clear and understandable.
At the beginning I was a bit worried about the way the book explains the material.It seemed too simple for a book dealing with more complex subjects in math such as functions, trigonometry and analytic geometry.Then again it could be said that this quality is the one that makes the book such a joy to read.
reviews for the 7th edition?
why are the reviews for the 6th and 7th edition of this book the same?is there no difference between editions, such that reviews for the 6th should be kept for the 6th.the 7th edition might have changes that could cause some to review/change a viewpoint about its content.maybe at the core they are the same book/method, but it is overall a different book and the reviews should be kept edition specific.
well designed for self study
I taught 2 sections of precalculus with this book last spring. This book is well designed for self study. Examples are keyed to specific exercises so the student is directed to use a concept immediately after seeing it employed in a suitable exercise.

A Must Have Step-by-Step Guide on Professional Techniques and "tricks of the trade

So far so good - Updated
After buying the Black and Decker Home Wiring guide and finding conflicting information, I decided I needed a more thorough reference (but didn't want to have to decipher the NEC).After a bit of research, I decided to buy "Electrical Wiring Residential".Within the first hour of reading it, I had two major questions answered that the B&D book didn't even attempt to address.While I've only had it for a day, I'm already 100% more satisfied with it than I was with the B&D book.My advice: buy this book instead of the less expensive ones if you paln on doing your own wiring and want it to be to code.
Best reference for teaching I've ever used
I teach NEC articles dealing with low-voltage issues and grounding to custom electronics installers.This is by far the best book I have ever used as a reference and I've seen a lot! The text is very clear, the illustrations are amazingly good.I have spoken with Ray Mullin the auther on many occassions and am always impressed with not only his knowledge but on the TLC (tender loving care) he puts into each edition. I'm not a radar expert, but with this book I COULD BE!!!
Mr. Stimson's book, "Introduction to Airborne Radar (2nd Edition)," has been one of my most treasured purchases from my graduate school education. I expected a book filled with equations and bad graphs and tables - I was wonderfully surprised by the high quality graphics, easy to follow mathematical treatment, and historical views into past and present radar systems.
No other introduction needed
Stimson's second edition is a slight improvement over his first. "Slight" because improving near perfection remains a difficult task. Nowhere else is such clarity apparent in the complex field of radars. Thanks to Stimson this subject could be understood by my grandmother. If only Stimson would carry edition three to the next echelon, extending depth and detail to levels required to actually build and make a working, modern radar. Like applying his talent to the intricacies of adaptive processing, a completion of SAR computational demands and processes (vs. stopping at the digital filter FFT), nuances of ever more important phase noise, test, measurement and producibility of radar systems that shouldn't cost a million dollars per copy, but a fraction of this with proper processes and synergistic integration vs. the "Mister Potato Head" approach of slapping together the latest-greatest-of-every-subsystem-technology still practiced by engineers in just about everything. Unfortunately this may be our last version from Stimson as he's no longer a young man and such efforts are monumental. Even so, he's made himself a national asset creating this magnificent edition, probably lasting longer than any of us in the field today.

Not easy reading
I bought this book because I work with radar and would like to improve my understanding of it. This book is a good middle ground, but for a dummy like me, several chapters require re-reads.One of the most annoying things is that when the author describes related material, he doesn't compare and contrast as much as write one paragraph on the attributes of thing A and then another paragraph on thing B using all but two words that were used in the first paragraph. I dont like the book
I dont like the way the author describing things. Somtimes its way is quite obscure/abstract, very general. sometimes I am feeling that I am reading "sth-sth-sth-sth", so at last I am not impressed at all and does not remember it very well.
The best biology book ever
I absolutely love this book.The explanations are thorough and understandable and the pictures and diagrams cannot be beat.Truly a great read.The book goes into enough detail, but not too much that you get confused.Thank you Purdue bio department for choosing this book!!Highly recommended!

Excellent book for College Biology
I utilized this book for my college biology classes.It was very complete and had great details on photosynthesis, Krebs cycle, glycolysis.I even liked the chapters on animal structure and function, quite interesting.However, the chapter on genetics was the hardest to read.I had to re-read pages over again to understand what Raven was trying to teach.If you want to know what is the best study guides for college biology to study from, get the following by Patrick Leonardi--

Better Writing
This book is a step-by-step instruction to different kinds of technical writing. It is easy to understand and follow. The topics are well organized and clearly outlined, which makes it easy to read.

Love this book
A good, "deep" and complete presentation of quantum mechanics. The first chapter is great for basic ideas of QM. This is followed by a chapter on the mathematical tools of quantum mechanics and a very good chapter that lays out the postulates of quantum mechanics. Then it covers spin, the harmonic oscillator, angular momentum, and the hydrogen atom. It seems to me the book is the best around for teaching Dirac notation and matrix mechanics. Each chapter is accompanied by appendices that develop further detail or provide examples of various concepts. For help with problem solving, I recommend Quantum Mechanics Demystified and the Schaum's Outline of Quantum Mechanics. For a good reading companion, I recommend the Griffiths Quantum Mechanics book.

Comprehensive, and clear
I do not understand the reviewers who claim this book gives no exercises or good examples. These books are about the only graduate-level QM books which do. Not only that, they explore more interesting/complex material in their "complements" at the end of each chapter. This is far more than can be said of a book like Sakurai's, say, which is also a standard text.
The gold standard
This two volume set on Quantum Mechanics not only teaches the advanced undergrad or graduate student all that is important in quantum mechanics in its various formulations, it is replete with practical, real world applications in the special sections at the end of each chapter.

Excellent
This edition is as useful as the earlier editions. Besides providing insight on almost all the topics of VLSI, the third edition also addresses several issues related to the sub-micron technology.

Rich engineering information from practice in VLSI
I have more than 15 integrated circuit design text book, this new edition is one of the best. It bridges academy with industry for VLSI, I like the part about "pitfalls" very much, it provides real lessons what industry has experienced. I like the way this book surveys related topics, for example, sequential circuits topics. It has a brief and good coverage on low power topic(covered in sections in differenct chapters). It also introduces Hspice with useful commands not seen in other text books.

its a math book
not gonna do back flips for a math book

Pleasently Surprised
I am a college student and the math book that was at the bookstore was $100.00. I went onto amazon.com and found the same book in new condition (looked like)for $56.00. I was kind of weary about ordering on-line for the first time but was pleasently surprised. This was a great first experience and plan on ording all my books through amazon.com.

Fun mathematical Ideas
"Ideas" is the key here as we have calculators, computers, and what not to do any real number crunching or comparing. This book carries you from zero to the edges of most any mathematical discipline.The information in the margins ties the theories back to reality.At the appropriate locations in the margin are postage stamps from around the works are shown commemorating the individual mathematicians and scientists relating to the subject being studied.There is a section in the book with the answers to all the odd questions. ... Welding: Principles and Applications

Extremely thorough theory, could use some practical guidelines
This is book is basically a college text on welding-- anda fine one at that.It covers the theory of all the major welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-cored) in dazzling detail with beautiful color photos and diagrams.This includes some simple-to-understand physics of each welding process, explanations of various types of welding equipment, weld joint designs, welding positions, weave patterns, etc.If you read this book cover-to-cover, you will have a thorough grasp of all the theoritical aspects of welding.No other text even comes close to this book in these areas.
A college text on Welding
This is the book we used in a college-level welding course I took. It covers virtually every aspect of welding from oxy-fuel, stick, MIG, TIG, SMAW, cutting, basic metallurgy, brazing, welding certification requirements, etc. This text is very detailed and you can directly reference chapters on welding processesyou're interested in doing without having to read the entire (very thick) book. Poor answer key
The book explained the concepts of the subject well enough, but the number of typos in the problems and in the answer key led to many hours of frustration. I was often under the impression I was doing something wrong, only to find out the givens in a problem had incorrect prefixes, or some other error.

Good Coverage of Complex Material
This book provides the reader with a good basic understanding of the subject.I recommend it to the apprentice engineer or designer or technician wanting to gain a good understanding of the basics of how loads and materials affect the shape of structures and machine design.
