Great step by step
I enjoyed this book, especially since I had a non-fluent English speaking professor we all looked into our books and read the complete, easy, and understanding chapters. this is one of the best math books I have ever had in my education experience.

Using for a class currently...
I just purchased this book brand newa few months ago.The only problem is very heavy and bulky to carry around.I appreciate Blitzer's no nonsense writing and by the way no highlighting necessary.All the key points are highlighted and pointed out.He also includes in-text exercises as well. I figure the book was worth my money but at least I understand what is printed.I also appreciate the mention of real-life applications indicated in the exercises and the sectional readings.I am not only reading the sections but appreciating all the bonus essays and definition boxes.

A decent resource for Orgo beginners
Orgo (I, II) was the most difficult subject I EVER had. I've taken both sections over and went through 2 books. The strengths of this particular book are its reaction summaries: before introducing a topic, the author dedicates a page or two to summarizing the reactions that lead up to this topic and then summarizes the reactions of the topic once he's through explaining it. Example: 'Reactions That Yield Alcohols' and then `Reactions of Alcohols'. Summaries are accompanied by short, yet thorough descriptions. With elaborate and comprehensive reaction mechanisms, this book is more of a reference that a textbook, although the text is inclusive and relatively simple. If you understand the lectures and use this book for mechanisms, reactions and problems, rather that for understanding concepts, you'll be fine.
In Peripatetic Style, Carey Waxes Tirelessly While Avoiding the Point
Ok, perhaps I'm being a little harsh. Whether or not you enjoy this book by the esteemed Professor Emeritus Dr. Carey (Virginia ) depends largely on the teaching methods you embrace. Personally, I am the "Joe Friday" of students. Just the facts please unless and until I ask for more. As I read Carey, I envision a group of gangly sophomores following their Professor around their Jeffersonian campus as their teacher drops morsels of wisdom and his students anxiously retrieve them. As the brisk walk comes to a close, Professor Carey will guide you back to the classroom from where you originally departed and tell you all that you really needed to know about organic chemistry.
Organic book
The book was fine. It's our class textbook and it was cheaper new that it was used in the bookstore at school. However, I had problems with it being shipped with me. The street I live on got renumbered and UPS was unable to find my house. I ended up picking it up from their offices even though I paid to have it shipped next day. So that was a huge hassle with amazon and their shipper UPS. ... Read more

Excellent Book
this book is awsome it has everything cover for every body system.., its very well explained, has great pictures, great diagrams, great color for diferent parts of the book, divisions, quizes, questions ... its a super book mainly for understanding simple concepts that in other books are very bad explained or with a lot of text.. This book explains the important stuff not with a lot of details as other books you will understand quickly.... Excellent for medschool, i use it for a first reading on the subject and then after understandig the subject and having an idea of it.I read other physiology book and add stuff that didn't mentioned to my notes.
Best Anatomy and Physiology Textbook
I used the third edition of this textbook when I was enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology I and II in college twenty three years ago. It is still used by the college I attended. The present edition (11th edition) which I purchased is the number one Anatomy and Physiology textbook. It explains every anatomical term and concept very well. The artwork is fabulous in showing the Anatomy and different Physiological processes. It is the best Anatomy and Physiology textbook for a two semester Anatomy and Physiology course.

This book is wonderful news to anyone who is frustrated with Jackson, or alternatively, is an excellent preface to it; Chapter 1 is particularly helpful as it presents all the necessary vector analysis, and is filled with illuminating geometrical interpretations to otherwise obscure mathematical creatures.
Worst book ever
A shining star in the quest for the most incomplete work ever published by credible institutions, David Griffiths triumphs over both the competition and his other works with his widely-distributed Third Edition of Introduction to Electrodynamics.
Book good, Amazon not
This book is a great introduction to electrodynamics and contains well worked out examples and good problems.

Very poorly written.
I had to buy this book for an introductory graduate stats class. This book assumes you have some knowledge of stats and so provides very brief explanations for most concepts. This is a big problem for students with little or no stats background. Disappointing
The text we used for our undergrad Stats class covered the exact same material as this text, which we used for a graduate level class and which cost about 60 bucks more, but the undergrad text was written more clearly, concisely and logically.We even found a mistake in one of the tables in the back of this book.

Fun and Frustrating
"The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" is a difficult book to rate. Vicki Iovine's honesty and sense of humor about pregnancy deserves 5 stars.If you find pregnancy difficult for even a moment, this book will be a great comfort to you.It is a delightful antidote to the dry, frightening pregnancy books that flood the market.

Books like this are the reason people abandon physics!
I am by no means incompetent, as I am an honors student and have no problem getting strait A's in calculus, linear algebra and object oriented programming, but this book is abysmal and almost impossible to follow.The book is horrible on so many levels.First off, many of the chapters start off throwing equations at you, and offer no clarity as to the purpose of the equation.The text very poorly explains concepts and the problems given throughout the book are even worse.The problems given during the chapters literally throw information out at you that was'nt ever touch upon in the entire chapter, and to make matters worse, i've counted 4 problems that have incorrect solutions, and thats only chapter 2!This is a very poorly written, even worse explained book.I dont mind sadistically difficult problems at the end of a chapter, if the book did a good job of teaching me the concepts and computations to answer the problem, unfortunately this book does neither.Whats funny is that our teacher started the semester by saying, he does'nt like the book, but were using it while he researches a better book for us to use.Sadly, I could have walked into a book store, and grabbed ANY physics book, and it would have been better then this one.Luckily I have several other physics books that peice together the missing information for me, but for a textbook that students depend on to learn the subject, it should'nt be required.

horrible text- worst text I've ever had to buy
I am a chemistry teacher and I am taking a college physics course as a review for an exam. The text has problems worked out but they are difficult to follow, and the problems at the end of the chapter are entirely impossible. It seems one person wrote the text and a different person wrote the end of text questions and another wrote the solutions. I am using other texts to help but unfortunately my teacher requires me to solve problems from this text. May God bless everyone who has to use this text. Teachers, professors, please rethink using this text.

A chaotic way to (not) learn math
Algebra 1/2 is deeply flawed in its approach to learning. I don't recommend it for anyone. While it claims to take an "incremental" approach, it doesn't introduce and build on new concepts in an orderly fashion, as you might expect, given the title. Instead, it takes a "shotgun" approach, with the student getting hit with new BB-sized factoids almost at random.
And you thought you hated math before...

Simply The Best Math Book Ever Written
As my 11 year old son begins his second semester of Calculus at our local college, he tends to take exception with parents that look down on the Saxon series of math books, with them often calling the books "boring" or "repetitive", as if math is intended to be loaded with excitement from day 1.Getting good at something, whether it's cutting lawns or learning pre-algebra, take practice.I just feel so bad for the kids with these parents, as the kids will never amount to anything, given that environment.Simply put, the Saxon series of books, if completed per their instructions (i.e., doing every problem), assures that your kid will NEVER have trouble in math.

Physician assistant student
This is a great book.I love how it isn't just about the drugs, but gives background on the diagnosis that you are treating.I think it is layed out well, and find it very useful.I notice a lot of pharm students are reviewing this but I think it is good for practitioner's as well.However, don't think this will fit in your labcoat pocket, it could but it is sorta heavy.

Outstanding
I used this as a study guide for my PTCE. If you do so begin studying at least 5 months earlier than planned to truely understand and absorb what you will learn here in addition to your other study guides.

Statistics for Dummies is the bomb
I am very impressed with the Statistics for Dummies book. It is well written and really helped me grasp a basic understanding of statistics. The formulas that the author has provided are very helpful. The author really knows her stuff and has written a book that can help everyone understand the complex world of statistics.

Good intro - clear but too repetitive
Definitely does the job it sets out to do but could have done it without so much repetition hence only gets 3 stars.

Not the college refresher I'd hoped for
This book covers material that would be found in the early to mid-level phases of a college Statistics course. I was hoping for a deeper refresher, short of re-reading my college texts and notes, and this wasn't the place to find it.

Every diabetic should own a copy
Good recipes that anyone will eat. Diabetics want tasty food like the rest of us. This is food that all of us will enjoy. I highly recommend this for anyone who has a diabetic family member.

Excellent choice, very informative for the somewhat "diabetes illerate". I will be using it often for my recently diagnosed husband's mealplanning and plan to send a copy to my son (who was also recently diagnosed with Type2 diabetes.

A Masterful Medical Book of Great Importance Written by a Nobel Laureate!
I am a Female Reconstructive Surgeon who while reading a diversified field of topics have fallen very fond of a particular work.This is Principles of Neural Science.having just completed the 2000 edition I can guarrantee that the new edition due June 2006 will be even more captivatiing.If you have the opportunity to see Dr Kandel speak please do he is an academic historian who gives a broad history of each critical piece of medical history to each of his topics.But returning tohis epic, Principles of Neural Science is akin to Newtons Principia in that is a sublime masterpiece.The Kandell prose is colorful, smooth and insightful for medical science.I havefound it easy to read 100-200 pages a day so that the 1400 page book took only a week to discover.The illustrations are the best for any field of Medicine and I have read alll the classics- Harrisions & Cecils Medicine and Schwartz and Sabistons General Surgery neither of these books elucidates the subjugate field with this type of clarity and instructional prose.Do as I have done and preorder the new edition.Those with any interest in the brain will certainly be amazed at the easy depth of information you will achieve.Believe meI am writing a book -Female Reconstructive Surgery and I will be implementing operative 17.2 million pixel photography to achieve the splendid vision the Kandel has produced with his illustrations.I have learned so much on how a book for Surgeons should be written from this Nobel Laureate

Excellent reference, extremely comprehensive!
Don't be deceived by the size of this book--Although it probably weighs more than I do, I have to say that kandel et.al, present the information in a clear, extremely comprehensible manner with a good deal of interesting experiments, clinical studies, and graphs/images to help illustrate the concepts discussed. Although this book is essentially meant for graduate students, it is highly accessible to undergrads and I am tempted to say anyone else, regardless of their science background. The table of contents and the index also principles of neural science a GREAT reference book. This should definately be a companion to any college (or above) level neuroscience course! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Flash of the obvious
An awesome new business book I read was Why we Buy- The Science of Shopping by Paco Underhill.This one is a business book primarily of interest to retailers (although I see similarities in retail and online habits).Paco (and his researchers) followed and recorded the behavior of tens of thousands of shoppers.From this he is able to run a consulting business that makes recommendations to retailers on minor changes they can make to increase their sales.

First we start with a mistake...
Having observed the healthcare industry for the last couple of decades, I would like to point out a flaw in the author's recommendations:
the next 20 years, explained
Michael Porter, of value chain and competitive advantage fame, has taken on the US health care system.Your reviewer, who is speaking from inside the system, can guarantee that both his diagnosis and his proposed fix are bang on. In short, you bring the US healthcare system in line with other industries by making information about the outcomes of healthcare available to consumers, then letting them choose. How to get there from here takes up most of the book, and it is as brilliant and thoughtful as Porter fans have come to expect. Read this one.

Hole's Anatomy & Physiology
I ordered this text book through Amazon because the school book store was out.In my past experiences with Amazon, I have been able to receive the same product, faster and sometimes cheaper.In this case, all was true except the book store book came with a very necessary CD, the book with Amazon did not.

The best ECG resource for med students
This book is an absolute gem. It's corny in places and has a few minor errors (autonomic physiology section for example), but it breaks down the nuts and bolts of ECG like no other resource. Some consider the book to be too basic; however, for a medical student's purpose, I disagree. I was called on on several occasions in internal medicine morning report and conferences to read ECGs of patients being discussed. I used the systematic method proposed by Dubin, and was commended by Staff on each occasion. The book breaks interpretation down and gives an algorithm: rate, rhythm, axis, intervals and hypertrophy and ischemia/damage. It's easy to learn because the book is very repititious. In fact, the repititious nature of the text may be irritating if you already have a good handle of ECG. Unlike other textbooks, once you've meticulously worked through this one, the knowledge gained is very easy to retain. I attribute this to the redundant nature of the book, i.e. while working through, you're contantly reminded of pertinent concepts previously presented in the text. This is definitely a five star resource for med students.

Perhaps the best
I purchased almost every book on the market pertaining to ECG's and this is perhaps the best you will find? It has great illustrations and explains heart function/anatomy very well. Covers every technical aspect to the subject of cardiology. However, many of the ECG strips could have been illustrated a lot bigger and more clearer. Some of the ECG strips are fuzzy!

Unless your a cardiologist, stick with this book.
This is truly an excellent book on an important subject.I read this book once as a medical student and once again as an intern.I cannot imagine another book being better at teaching EKG interpretation.Maybe there are some other good onces out there, but you cannot go wrong here.This was quite helpful from a residents perspective when taking care of medicine patients. ...
