This is an excellent book but its only suitable for people who love cheetahs and are over 10 at least. Miss the mark
I bought this book due to the great reviews given by readers, but I cannot see what they are so excited about (Maybe they were the author's friends). The photographs are really poor (blurred, poorly lit) and only a few are in colour.I would have expected at least a clear description (with images) of the different colours Maine Coons available, but again here were only written descriptions. The text runs on an on with no apparent point to make. This was clearly written for purple haired ladies who attend cat shows and go on and on about standards, not a cat enthusiast who would like to learn and appreciate a specific breed.

I purchased it to gift to my niece for her 15th birthday. She has mania for cats and many books related with feline. This book is better than the others she had because the beauty of the scenery is in harmony with cat feature. She was suffused with delight when received this gift.

I bought this fabulous coffee table book for my boyfriend's birthday last month, and we both think it is fantastic. The pictures are so luscious and colorful--now I can't wait to visit the Greek Isles and see some of these amazing cats.

A fascinating observation of a natural cat colony

Not Worth the Buy
I've tried to read this book twice and couldn't even get halfway through it each time.
good book
"The Nine Emotional Lives of Cats," in my opinion is very good.It's interesting.I wish it had gone a little more into emotions and what different ways a cat communicates and what things mean.But overall it was really good.It's nice to see a man who loves cats.I also enjoyed hearing the stories about he and his families cats in New Zeland.I learned a good deal about cats from these books.I have two cats and love them dearly and this book has helped me learn a little more about them. Really good job and a good book for cat lovers.

Tons of fun
This book was as much fun to read as is was helpful. Some of the games in it, I already play with my cats, but there were plenty of other original games that were a blast. The book is written casually, so it's funny to read. And the illustrations are good, too.

Fantastic Kitty Fun
This is a great book with excellent and little or not cost games and toys for cats. I have tried 4 games already and I just recieved the book. PitaPuss had a great time! and I did too. He really enjoyed the shoe box rideand he already plays in water so the bobbing for vegi's was a big hit. Ifyou have a cat this is a must for you. Know anyone with a cat they willreally enjoy this book as a gift. The illustrations are great and thewriting is witty and fun to read. Try it you will like it!

To have a knowledge on wild cats
I haven't seen a textbook this big since my college psychology book a few months back. Anyway, this is a great deal. Almost every aspect of almost every wild cat living in this world is here. Even the Appendices help. Highly recommended for those who are interested in lions, tigers, cheetahs, pumas, etc.

Wild Cats of the World
It is a very information book giving black and white and color photos. It is a good reference book for people who do work with predators and for anyone who would like to know about relatives of the domestic cat. The format of the book is an encylopdeia format and it is fairly easy to read.

CATS
I read the book "cats" by: David Alderton and this book tells everything from kittens being born to the ancestry of these felines. This book has facts about every cat just about and their body weight and lots more. This book has everything on them, whether it's just for your pleasure or for the facts this books got it. I loved this book I thought it was very good, it has a lot of very good information and facts, it also has over 700 colorful pictures.
Still the best guide to cat breeds
I've owned this book (the eyewitness edition, actually) for years, and it's still the best and most comprehensive photographic guide to cat breeds that I've seen. Great, clear photographs featuring both common and some rarer breeds in all the major color variations for each breed, as well as lots of good, interesting info on each breed and its history.

Insights into human/cat interactions, beautifully written
This is without doubt one of the best books on animal behavior I have ever read.What Thomas does that others do not (and often cannot) is three-fold: The Circus culture
I spend a lot of time in India and am very knowledgeable about tigers. I was absolutely amazed to read that Ms Thomas thought it perfectly acceptable for tigers to be kept in tiny cages, and dragged around America only to emerge in a circus ring and then be put back in a cage. Ms Thomas seems to think this a wonderful life guaranteed to keep tigers alert and happy, and reccomends the practice continue. She even sings the praises of John Cuneo who breeds tigers for circuses in the US and is currently being prosecuted for animal cruelty. Skip it

A Love Story
I found this book by seeing a newspaper item on the speaking engagement/book signing here in my town.I arrived early, purchased the book, then read the first half in the car.I had a hard time stopping to go in for the lecture.What a dear story.The author heroically resisted, but eventually succumbed to love's sweet sickness.I have read this book over and over with pleasure.Sure, he's a flawed being, but his love for Darwin overcame all.If you liked Peter Gether's books about Norton, you'll like this one too.Bravo:)

We learn ... and our pets are our teachers
This is a gem of a book. Well-written -- sometimes a bit too pithy and scientific -- but despite that, Jordan's inward reflections are the soul-baring and keenly appreciated narratives of the living interplay between human and cat.
GREATEST BOOK EVER!!!!
After reading several books on true stories about humans and their animal companions, this book IS THE ONE! The author leads you with an open heart in his relationship with Darwin and how Darwin changed his deepest emotions. We all know how our companions change our life, but he has a way of describing all of this. I saw myself in this book, having lived a similar situation with my dear Sylvester, this story brough out my memories and lead me through the pages with smiles, deep emotions and tears, and at the end a deep sense of acomplishment surfaced once again. Errors and omissions make this a chancy book
We do and teach a lot of rescue/TNR, and found this book to have many errors/omissions.Some examples:

No bigger than this book is, it is a great source of information on large cats. Complimented very well with fantastic photography by Tom Brakefield. Excellent for the big cat enthusist.
This book is a excellent reference for the person who wishes to learn about the "Big" Cats and the "Great" Cats. It goes into detail on all species including sub-species, range, habitat, behavior, the status on threatend species and the tragedy of now extinct species. Superb photography and graphs make this book the perfect addition for your library. The references section of this book also points out other publications which would be benificial to the reader

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Big Cats all the way! HEY!
This is among the best books I've ever read. It has my top 8 most favorite animals, the eight big cats, in it, the information is etched in terrific print and detail, you can learn tons from it, and the photos are absolutely glamourous. There are few, if any, large cats I have seen photographed that are more beautiful than the ones in this book. Any cat lover should buy it. A terrible book on lions.
If you want a terrific book on mountain lions, then please read Soul Among Lions by Harley Shaw.I have read every book on lions and his is the only one worth reading.Most of the authors in Shadow Cat are easterners whohave moved to Montana or California, displacing numerous wildlife specieswith their cabin in the wilderness and who have never even seen a lion, letalone have any kind of authority to provide insight into any aspect of lionecology.The book is biased toward anti-hunting and environmentalism anddoesn't portray an accurate picture.If you are a granola who likes toblame loggers and hunters for your own ineptness then you may like thisbook.They let Wayne Pacelle have the parting shot in this book, and wellif that doesn't throw up a big red flag then you're probably dumb enough towant to read Shadow Cat.

Some anthologies are glued together, others are woven.This text is a wonderful tapestry of insightful, well written essays that address a controversial topic without relying on platitudes.There is one strandthat is out of place, however, and while I normally think bad literature isbest left ignored, I have to inquire why Pam Houston was included here? What can I say. This book is perfect. Well, almost. Lions are and always have been my favorite animal in the world, with tigers very close to a tie.
