5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
This text is a vast improvement on the previous editions. Its improved vastly on both clarity and content. The figures themselves are excellent learning tools. Combined with uptodate material, it is in my opinion peerless. Its rivals would be lodish and alberts but in some areas complements them and often outshines them. The textbook exists online at ergito.com and you could subcribe for the duration of your course. The website gives you access to the complete material in the print text and you also save a ton of money by subscribing for a shorter period, that is if you find cash an issue. However, I wholeheartedly recommend the print edition as a trusted companion for those embarking on graduate studies.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book on biology
Dr. Lewin's work has helped me understand biology and improve my understanding of the sciences. The design and figures in Genes are wonderfully clear, as is the general body of the text.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive introduction to the field
This text is the best introductory book available, it is comprehensive and will serve the reader as a reference throughout his/her career. The authors have made a significant contribution to the field with this text and will help many biomedical engineering programs and their students.

3-0 out of 5 stars Errors make it hard to learn
I've used this book now in 2 classes (including one taught by an author of one of the chapters) and have both times found the book hard to use.It is full of so many small errors you can never be sure whether the problems you are having are because you don't understand the material, or if there is another mistake in that section.Very frustrating. The problems are not limited to explicit errors either, there are issues with the presentation that makes me think it was poorly edited as well.Style, order, and omission of important points are among the sins. Some sections are pretty good, though.1-0 out of 5 stars review of biomedical engineering handbook

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book.
This is a wonderfully written, and excellent book. It assumes only minimal backgroundknowledge but imparts a great deal of insight. I love the way that the author describes this area and the connections with deep and beautifulmathematics.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very nice 'handbook' of sorts for users of SOMs.
The material is presented clearly and comprehensively from the unique perspective of the SOM originator himself. The inclusion ofexhaustive references is particularly useful for the prospective researcher, but, atthe risk of sounding ungrateful, I'm curious as to why paper titles werenot included in the citations? Overall though, a very good reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the radiology and radiation oncology resident!
This book has an excellent concise layout. The chapters are well written with almost every concept covered on the basis of primary literature findings; however, this is burdensome in certain locations where a simple sentence would have been better fit instead of an experiment based explanation of a more remote concept. Additionally, there are some areas, such as the molecular biology sections, that pack in details that take the concept of the mark. Despite this, the textbook is definitely an easy read. The Key points sections at the end is very helpful. There are abundant figures, tables, and graphs for ease of integration of material. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing
Anyone reading the title of this book might justifiably assume it was going to deal with the type of energy manifested in Qi Gong, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), acupuncture, Quantum-Touch and many other energy therapies - subtle energy it is often called.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Mind-Boggling New Scientific Understanding
James Oschman has done it, he's presenting us with the rare gift of abreakthrough understanding of the human condition that includes a profound new theory of the mechanisms of life, one with critically important clinical implications. In prose that reads like a good adventure story he presents with great clarity, comprehensiveness, and extensive endnotes a mind-boggling story from the frontiers of biophysics. Reading merely the introduction to this immensely important book will open your mind to a radically different paradigm of human functioning, one that is laying the foundation for more fully understanding all kinds of phenomena of living processes thatheretofore have remained insoluble mysteries.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I own an earlier version
This book is heavily referenced by Louie Simmons of the Westside Barbell Club in Columbus.
4-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up!
Some of the topics in the book are quite technical but you'll be able to understand them after a few times of rereading. The book does not show you routines to follow but what it does is show you what methods worked and did not work. This book is for all those who want to understand the science behind strength training. It does not give you a specific program but it equips you with the knowledge on how to develop your own. This book deserves a space in your strength training library and is a must for any serious lifter, coach and athlete.

5-0 out of 5 stars Decades of experience
This book is based on decades of methodically documented training of Russian athletes. Rather than use hypothesis of what training methods SHOULD work, found so commonly in U.S. training literature, what you'll read in this book is scrupulous analysis of what actually worked and what didn't work. There is no equivalent in the U.S. athletic training system; no one has tracked and scientifically analyzed the training of U.S. athletes like the Russians did with their centralized training programs. 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book
Well written. Easy to read, yet very rigorous. Very relevant examples. Top-notch textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book in great shape.Prompt service.
Book arrived promptly and in the condition described.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book, ideal for students.
I used Nelson's Biological Physics textbook for a graduate level reading course in physics, and found it excellent for my needs. I haven't taken a biology course since high school, and although I have researched biological systems for some time, I have had a very fuzzy view of biological physics until recently.I was skeptical of a book that claims it is appropriate for students from second year undergraduate through graduate studies, but by using the Track 2 option, and following up some of the cited papers and suggested readings I found it to be quite suitable. Also, the text was well written, and easy to follow - which is ideal for independent study.

Let's keep this simple. Robert O. Becker discovered that Metabolism, our "Biological Clock AND Compass", is disoriented by the plethora of electromagnetic pollution spewed out by our government and corporate facilities, ( ie: everything from Radar Beams, Microwaves, radio waves and Cell Phone frequencies ), which discovery smacked Western Civilization/Technology, ( not just that of the U.S., but of other countries as well ), in the face.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only an introduction to biomechanics
I am a grad student in biology who recently got interested in spider silk biomechanics. I was looking for a good book on biomechanics and my advisor suggested that I get this one. It was so disappointing !
5-0 out of 5 stars Best introductory physics textbook ever
This book would be a fantastic text for an introductory physics class, eg, mechanics classes aimed at future doctors. It begins with the "simple" problem of walking, which can be understood as an oscillation, with the frequency tuned to the length of your legs. From there, the book proceeds to dimensional analysis, and treats the biomechanical universe as a set of simple tubes, surfaces, flows, beams, and levers, all amenable to simple calculation and estimation. This book contains more real, relevant physics than any introductory physics text (with the possible exception of the Feynman lectures, which are totally unsuited for first-year students). It is the best physics textbook we know.(Review co-written by Dr Sanjoy Mahajan, Department of Physics, University of Cambridge).

5-0 out of 5 stars The Physics of Pulsatile Flow
This is a well-written book by an expert in the field of biomathmatics and cardiovascular dynamics. I am impressed by the self-contained contents of the book and the flow of thoughts. The book introduces the fundamental physical principles and fluid mechanics before embarking on the subjects of steady flow in tubes and pulsatile flow in rigid and elastic tubes. The author leads the readers smoothly into the interesting regimes of vascular tree structures and their optimization, and the wave propagation and reflection phenomena. The relevant end-of-chapter problems are good additional sources to recapture the intended message from the text, as well as learning about other applications. Students and professionals in math, science, engineering and cardiovascular dynamics will find this text a good addition to their reading list.3-0 out of 5 stars A work of art, a classic, February 11, 2002
Professor Zamir's new book is an exceptionally strong, beautiful and persuasive treatise on the physics of flow through tubes and tree-shaped paths, in steady and unsteady flow. This work is fundamental physics. The mathematical treatment is authoritative and very accessible. The concepts apply not only to blood circulation, for which most of the empirical data are carefully documented, but also to other tree-shaped flows, from physiology and geophysics to optimized piping networks in mechanical and civil engineering.5-0 out of 5 stars A very informative book
As a researcher with expertise in electrical engineering and specialization inthe fields of digital signal and image processing "The Physics of Pulsatile Flow" was a big help in quickly understanding the basics of pulsatile flow in general. In particular, I needed to model the wall velocity of blood vessels as a function of the velocity of a viscous fluid pumped through that vessel and found a good first approach for solving this problem in chapter 5 called "pulsatile flow in an elastic tube". The references given throughout the book are also valuable to gain further insights. Read more
